A reindeer safari is the most serene and authentic of all Lapland experiences. You meet the reindeer at a traditional farm, learn about Sámi herding culture, then glide through the snow-covered forest on a reindeer-drawn sleigh in near-total silence.
After the ride, you warm up by a campfire in a traditional lávvu (tipi) with hot drinks. It is gentle, deeply Finnish and suitable for all ages — a favourite with families and honeymooners alike, and included in most of our Lapland packages.
What a reindeer safari involves
You meet your reindeer at the farm, learn how the herders care for them, then take a peaceful sleigh ride along forest trails. The pace is gentle and quiet — the opposite of the husky safari’s speed — making it perfect for young children and anyone who wants to soak up the calm of the Arctic.
Reindeer and Sámi culture
Reindeer herding is central to the indigenous Sámi way of life in Lapland. On the safari your guide shares the traditions and folklore behind it, giving the experience real cultural depth beyond the sleigh ride itself.
