The aurora season runs from late August to early April, with the darkest, longest nights from December to February — up to around 18 hours of darkness in mid-winter. We run tours throughout the season and track conditions nightly to give you the best possible chance.

If the Northern Lights do not appear on your tour, we rebook you free of charge on another available tour during your stay. Our guides monitor the KP-index and cloud cover in real time and reposition to the clearest skies, so we chase the lights rather than wait for them.

We keep groups small for a personal experience and better photo opportunities. Private and tailor-made tours are also available for families, couples, honeymoons and special occasions.

You do not need professional gear. Our guides provide hands-on aurora photography coaching and will help with camera settings; a modern smartphone in night mode can also capture the lights. If you have a camera, bring a wide-angle lens, a tripod and spare batteries, as the cold drains them quickly.

Yes — families are very welcome. Northern Lights hunts and reindeer experiences suit all ages, and we tailor the pace and timing for younger children. Some activities such as snowmobile driving have minimum-age rules, but children can usually join as passengers.

Warm arctic outer kit (thermal overalls and boots) is included on our winter tours, along with expert guiding and transport. Dress in warm layers underneath — thermal base layers, a warm mid-layer, hat, gloves and wool socks — so you stay comfortable while waiting for the aurora.

Most guests fly into Helsinki and connect on a short domestic flight to Rovaniemi, Kuusamo or Ivalo in the north. We can advise on the best arrival airport for your itinerary and help arrange transfers.
